ABU DHABI: Dr. Khalid Al-Sultan, the president of the King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy (KACARE), affirmed that the Kingdom was working to establish a sustainable renewable energy sector. “Such a sector takes shape by identifying its main frameworks and finding a balanced mix of energy in the Kingdom, by introducing renewable energy sources to the national energy mix to achieve growth, prosperity and promote energy security. Those sources include solar, wind and geothermal energy, and the conversion of waste into energy,” he added. “The Kingdom is keen to monitor the needs of arid climate regions to ensure the use of renewable energy. It has also worked on several initiatives concerned with developing countries with a similar climate to allow the expansion of renewable energy sources.” Al-Sultan’s words came as he delivered the Kingdom’s address to the 10th session of the General Assembly of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) on Saturday. He expressed his appreciation to the Saudi government, to the UAE for hosting IRENA, and to IRENA’s director general and all those responsible for its achievements promoting the use of renewable energy.
