Griffiths Meets Hadi to Revive Stalled Peace Talks With Houthis

Yemeni President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi stressed Monday that the legitimate government is committed to cooperating with UN envoy to Yemen, Martin Griffiths, in implementing the provisions of the Hodeidah Agreement despite the repeated foot-dragging tactics of the Houthi coup militia. Hadi held a meeting with Griffiths in Riyadh, in the presence of Vice President Ali Mohsen Saleh. The UN envoy resumed lately a new round of regional talks, which he kicked off in Oman, to revive stalled peace talks between the legitimate government and Houthi militias. Saba news agency reported that the Yemeni President said he valued the efforts of Griffiths, aimed at bringing peace and achieving the security and stability that the Yemeni people aspire for. Hadi also stressed the importance of joint efforts to restore security and stability to Yemen and preserve the countrys territorial integrity, particularly noting the significance of the support by the Saudi-led Arab Coalition to reinforce those efforts. For his part, the UN envoy briefed the President on his vision and the next steps to achieve peace through the implementation of the Hodeidah Agreement steps, with the beginning of confidence-building measures to enhance the desired peaceful path. Griffiths also praised the efforts and skills of Hadi in steering Yemen in these critical circumstances. Also on Monday, Hadi received US ambassador to Yemen Christopher Henzel and the two men discussed the situation in Yemen and the latest developments in the region, including Iranian escalations and attacking US bases in Iraq. The Yemeni president confirmed the deep-rooted relations between Yemen and the US and means of boosting and improving them in different fields through a strategic partnership between the two countries in facing Iranian interferences in Yemen and in the region and combating terrorism. Hadi stressed that his government is ambitious for realizing peace and stability across Yemen with support from the US, the International Community and brothers in the Arab Coalition. For his part, Henzel confirmed the continuation of US support to Yemen and its legality in facing Iranian interferences in the region, praising Yemens situations over Iranian aggressions against US bases in Iraq. The two parties discussed steps taken for implementing the Riyadh Agreement. Henzel confirmed his countrys support for implementing the executive matrix on the security field signed by the government and Southern Transitional Council recently.
