RIYADH: The Communications and Information Technology Commission is inviting people to vote for local projects competing in a global contest, the Saudi Press Agency reported. There are more than 34 projects to vote for in the World Summit on the Information Society for 2020, which is an annual gathering of the ‘ICT for development’ community. The Kingdom’s nominated projects include an antimicrobial resistance surveillance platform, digital inclusion of Saudi rural areas and a national broadband plan, according to the summit’s website. The commission’s call for public votes is aimed at supporting national projects participating in the development and support of the communications and IT sector in the Kingdom’s digital transformation. It said Saudi Arabia was competing in 16 categories and that more than 26 governmental and private agencies were participating. It added that people could view projects and vote for them until Jan. 24 through the International Telecommunication Union website.
