Advisor to the Royal Court and Supervisor General of King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSRelief) Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al-Rabiah stressed Friday that Saudi Arabia has been and is still one of the major donors to Sudan. It has so far provided the country with more than $1.2 billion, he told the High-Level Roundtable meeting on Sudan Humanitarian Response Plan, which was organized by the UK, Sweden and the UNs Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in London. The “solid historic relations” between Riyadh and Khartoum make supporting Sudan and its people a pressing priority, Rabiah added. Furthermore, he highlighted the aid package of $3 billion, including a $500 million deposit in the Central Bank of Sudan, by Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates that was announced in April 2019. Saudi Arabia supports international efforts to hold a donors conference on Sudan in 2020, he continued, calling on the international community to support humanitarian relief and development plans to achieve its economic recovery.
