Five people were arrested in Kenya on suspicion of preparing a terror attack in Nairobi, Kenyan police reported. The police report indicated that the group of five comprises of three men; a US citizen, Somali man and a Kenyan national along with two Somali women. They were believed to be on a reconnaissance mission for an attack in the north of the capital, the report dated Saturday said, according to AFP. On Friday, the Police received information over "suspected terrorists" who were planning to carry out a surveillance operation at a pub on Kiambu Road, a spot known for its many bars and nightclubs. Kenyan security forces have been on high alert since the Somali Al-Shabaab group, close to Al-Qaeda, stepped up attacks in the east of the country this month, threatening to target more Kenyan and US interests. In 2011, Kenya sent troops into Somalia as part of an African Union peacekeeping mission fighting against Al-Shabaab. Since then it has seen multiple brutal retaliation attacks both on its troops in Somalia and civilians in Kenya.
