Author: Fri, 2020-01-31 00:35 Abdullah Al-Bargi is dean of the English Language Institute at King Abdul Aziz University in Jeddah. Nearly 2,000 English language teachers from the region took part in the Saudi International English Language Teaching (ELT) Conference organized by the university, on Wednesday. The forum addressed topics including the management of educational institutions, teaching approaches, student psychology, technology, assessment and curricula, and local ELT market potential. Al-Bargi said that the event will regularly take place in the future to help English language educators with teaching methodology and training approaches. The university’s ELI signed agreements with four public universities to improve English language education in the Kingdom. Al-Bargi obtained his bachelor’s degree in English linguistics and literature in 1997 from King Abdul Aziz University. Two years later, he received his master’s degree from Arizona State University and, in 2006, was awarded a Ph.D. in linguistics. He began his career as a program coordinator and instructor for the American English and Culture Program AECP at Arizona State University, coordinating teaching activities for Arab speakers. From 2006 till 2011 he worked for the Saudi Gazette newspaper as an editorial board supervisor, overseeing content development, writing and editing, investigative reporting, and reporter recruitment and training. He also worked for Arab News between 2013 and 2014.
