RIYADH: The Saudi Education and Training Evaluation Commission (ETEC) inaugurated on Friday a workshop for the deans of medical colleges in the Kingdom to tackle the issue of academic accreditation. The workshop was organized by the commission’s National Center for Academic Accreditation and Assessment in Riyadh. During his speech, ETEC Chairman Hussam bin Abdulwahab Zaman stressed that the center of attention has shifted nationally and globally from the accessibility of education to the proven quality of academic accreditation. Zaman referenced the circular issued by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG), which stipulated: “Starting in 2023, individuals applying for ECFMG Certification must be students or graduates of a medical school that is appropriately accredited. More specifically, the school must be accredited by an accrediting agency that is officially recognized by the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME).”
