RIYADH: The old adage diamonds are a girl’s best friend certainly rings true for Saudis. Gifting jewelry has throughout history been regarded as a symbol of appreciation, devotion, and love. And whether it be a diamond ring or exquisite ruby necklace, on Valentine’s Day many romantic Saudis will be expressing their feelings by presenting their loved ones with precious stones. AN Photo/Huda Bashatah In recent years, a number of Saudi brands have produced pieces specially designed to celebrate the national day of love. Farsi, one of the Kingdom’s oldest jewelry brands, has carried on the art of jewelry design for more than 100 years. Its latest exclusive Valentine’s collection, My One and My Heart, incorporates a solitaire diamond or heart-shaped ruby set on a thin gold- or white gold-plated rod. Nasser Farsi, the company’s chief executive officer and collection designer, told Arab News: “I personally designed the pieces because many people like to celebrate their love on Valentine’s Day. “The design is simple, a single solitaire diamond or heart-shaped ruby symbolizes the simplicity of love, how glamorous it is with beautiful moments, and exciting experiences within that love. AN Photo/Huda Bashatah “My latest design resembles the elements of a successful relationship, where love should be straightforward, simple, yet glamorous. Love is that pillar,” he said. The brainchild of sisters Hala and Leena El-Khereiji, Charmaleena’s jewelry collections are known for their unique designs and mix and match of precious stones and diamonds. The Saudi brand’s My Heart collection, which includes mother-of-pearl heart pendants and bright red coral earrings, has been specially produced with Valentine’s Day in mind. When it comes to saying, “I love you,” jewelry, it seems, continues to stand the test of time for Saudis.
