Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah has kicked off his official visit to the US with talks with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo at the State Department in Washington. During the meeting, the historic strategic relations between the two friendly countries and aspects of cooperation and mutual coordination towards the joint issues of concern in addition to the latest regional and international developments were discussed, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Wednesday. The meeting was attended by Saudi Ambassador to the US Princess Rima bint Bandar bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz and the visiting foreign ministers accompanying delegation, SPA said. State Department Spokesperson Morgan Ortagus said that Pompeo and the Saudi FM “discussed bilateral and regional issues of mutual concern, including the continued need to counter the Iranian regime’s destabilizing behavior.” “The Secretary underscored the importance of the US-Saudi partnership in confronting the Iranian regime’s threats.” Pompeo and Prince Faisal “expressed their concern over the recent violence in Yemen, including Houthi cross-border attacks on Saudi Arabia, and they agreed on the need to swiftly return to de-escalation,” said Ortagus. “The Secretary reiterated US support for a political solution to the conflict facilitated by UN Special Envoy Martin Griffiths,” she added.
