Abdulkarim Al-Humaid has been the Saudi Ministry of Culture’s head of public relations and media and its official spokesman since January 2019. Recently, the Saudi Cabinet approved the establishment of 11 new cultural authorities, each with their own financial and administrative independence, to drive the development of the sectors of literature; publishing and translation; fashion; music; film; heritage; architecture and design; visual arts; museums; libraries; and culinary arts. Al-Humaid said that the new cultural commissions were being set up in response to the needs of the Saudi cultural sector and its employees, and would improve the organization, effectiveness and efficiency of managing the sub-sectors. Al-Humaid gained a bachelor’s degree in mass communication and public relations from Imam Muhammad bin Saud Islamic University in Riyadh. In his professional career, he worked as a journalist for Al-Jazirah newspaper between October 2012 and March 2016. He joined the Saudi Industrial Development Fund in May 2013 and held the position of assistant public relations coordinator for the Kingdom’s Kafalah program. In April 2015, he was promoted to the role of a public relations coordinator. In March 2016, he become the acting head of the Kafalah program’s public relations and customer services unit, a post he held until February 2018.
