The Scottish Conservatives are split over whether to back another independence referendum, according to reports. The surprising claim was made by the party"s former head of communications, Andy Maciver, who said he has been in several talks with leading Scottish Conservative members in favour of holding another vote on the constitution. Rumours of a rift were strongly denied by the party’s new leader Jackson Carlaw, who won the leadership election on Friday with a 76 per cent share of the vote. Mr Carlaw told BBC’s Politics Scotland that there is “no split in the party at all” on the issue of a second referendum.
