More than 1,100 former prosecutors and Department of Justice officials have called on US Attorney General William Barr to quit over his intervention in the case of long-time Trump ally, Roger Stone. In a scathing open letter, they accused Mr Barr and Mr Trump of "interference in the fair administration of justice." It was published days after Mr Barr overruled his own prosecutors who recommended Mr Stone serve up to nine years in jail after being convicted of obstructing a congressional inquiry. Mr Barr stepped in after the US president condemned the sentence on Twitter – although the Department of Justice insisted the case had not been discussed with the White House.
