England Women warmed up for their T20 World Cup campaign with a six-wicket win over New Zealand in Adelaide. New Zealand made 134 for nine after winning the toss, with Katey Martin’s 57 from 44 balls holding the innings together against some excellent bowling. Katherine Brunt dismissed New Zealand captain Sophie Devine with the fourth ball of the match and finished with figures of three for 23. Brunt was well supported by Anya Shrubsole (two for 19) and Sophie Ecclestone (two for 21). England openers Danni Wyatt (42) and Amy Jones (21) then put on 41 for the first wicket before captain Heather Knight (45 not out) saw her side home with 12 balls to spare. Knight told Sky Sports: “It was a good pitch, so it was a really good performance by our bowlers. “Anya bowled very nicely and Sophie looked threatening throughout her overs, which is important because it means we can continue to look to take wickets throughout the innings. Jonesy and Danni started nicely and that helped us get in front of the game. “Katherine obviously got us off to an excellent start and that was backed up by the rest of the attack. “It’s nice for the confidence to get over the line with just four wickets down. Hopefully we can continue that against Sri Lanka on Tuesday before flying to Perth.” All-rounder Nat Sciver, a key part of new coach Lisa Keightley’s side, missed the match with a knee injury. Sciver is likely to sit out the final warm-up fixture against Sri Lanka on Tuesday, but is expected to be fit for the start of England’s World Cup campaign against South Africa in Perth next Sunday.
