China is revoking the press credentials of three journalists for the Wall Street Journal, the biggest expulsion of foreign media from the country in three decades. The Chinese government criticised the newspaper for declining to apologise for an opinion piece published earlier this month with the headline, “China is the Real Sick Man of Asia.” “The Chinese people do not welcome those media that speak racially discriminatory languages and maliciously slander and attack China,” said Geng Shuang, a spokesperson for China’s foreign ministry. “As such, it is decided that from today, the press cards of three WSJ journalists will be revoked.” The visa expulsions come one day after the US government said it would impose new rules on five major Chinese state-run media organisations operating in the US, requiring them to register their employees and US properties with the State Department....
