England centres Manu Tuilagi and Henry Slade are in contention to face Ireland at Twickenham on Sunday having been retained in a 27-man squad announced on Wednesday night. Tuilagi missed England’s 13-6 victory against Scotland after picking up a groin injury early in their opening round defeat to France. Slade, meanwhile, has been out of action since injuring his ankle playing for Exeter Chiefs against Leicester Tigers on December 21. Jonathan Joseph deputised at outside centre in torrential conditions at Murrayfield, but the absence of Mako Vunipola, who has returned to Tonga for family reasons, will amplify the need for Tuilagi’s return. “Manu trained fully so should be in contention for selection. It’s good to have a quality player back,” Eddie Jones, the England head coach, said. “Slade also trained so we have just got to monitor his progress. He has a positive chance. He’s a quality player.
