Egyptian authorities on Saturday announced the execution of three detainees in a seven-year-old murder case of a police officer. According to state media, the Prison Authority of the Ministry of Interior carried out the verdict of those convicted in the case that dates back to 2013. The accused were sentenced for killing of an officer, Ahmed Abu Al-Dahab, in Giza, while he was chasing them after receiving a call from a girl who was robbed by them. The killing of al-Dahab coincided with a period of instability in Egypt when demonstrations had erupted against the rule of president Mohammed Morsi, of the Muslim Brotherhood. Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi honored al-Dahab’s family in 2014, while the Ministry of Interior granted his eldest child a decoration of academic excellence in 2017.
