RIYADH: The Saudi Minister of Education Dr. Hamad bin Mohammed Al-Asheikh and Secretary General of the Saudi Secretariat for the G20 Fahd Al-Tunisi signed two agreements for cooperation between their respective bodies on Thursday. The first agreement focuses on “promoting universal citizenship and national pride” among students, and expanding their knowledge under the umbrella of the “G20 Culture Program,” billed as the first program of its kind in G20 countries, and targeting all educational levels. It will include the “G20 Cultural Contest” — a social-media-based quiz competition. The second agreement focuses on encouraging citizens to contribute towards society by engaging 1,000 volunteers to organize international workshops, events and conferences at this year’s G20 summit in the Kingdom. One of its goals is to achieve 100,000 hours of volunteer work during Saudi Arabia’s G20 presidency. The projects target more than 30,000 schools and universities in the Kingdom and aims to engage 6 million participants in the Kingdom and abroad, with the involvement of more than 500,000 teachers. The winners of the G20 Cultural Contest will be announced in November 2020, prior to the G20 Leaders’ Summit. The programs are also designed to promote humanitarian values among youth and enable them to better understand the links between societal and international issues, thus enabling them to face global challenges.
