MANAMA — A Bahraini woman has died from the novel coronavirus (COVID-10), Bahrain News Agency (BNA) reported on Monday quoting the Ministry of Health’s announcement. The death marked the first fatality from the deadly virus both in the kingdom as well as in the Gulf Cooperation Council member states. According to the BNA report, the deceased was as a 65-year-old Bahraini woman who had underlying health conditions. The woman had returned from Iran via an indirect flight last month and had been placed in isolation and received extensive 24-hour treatment, said the report. Except for one other case, all other registered cases in the kingdom are stable, the ministry added. Meanwhile in another major announcement on Monday, the ministry reported recoveries of the 17 individuals, bringing the total number of confirmed recoveries to 77 in the country. Among the recovered individuals, seven male and eight female are Bahraini nationals, one male is a Saudi national, and one male is a Lebanese national. All of them have been discharged from the isolation center after responding positively to medical care provided by a specialized medical team conforming to measures outlined by the World Health Organization (WHO). The ministry also pointed out that all individuals have undergone extensive medical testing to ensure their full recovery from the virus before being discharged, and will continue to be monitored post discharge. The ministry called upon all citizens and residents who are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, including a fever, coughing and difficulty breathing, to isolate themselves, call ‪444 and follow the instructions given by the medical team, and avoid close contact with others. Bahrain first recorded an explosion of coronavirus cases in January, the majority of which were transported from Iran.
