Dr. Ahmed Albarrag, chairman of the Master of Public Health Board at King Saud University

Dr. Ahmed Albarrag has been the chairman of the Master of Public Health Board at King Saud University (KSU) in Riyadh since September 2017. Albarrag received his bachelor’s degree in medical and health in 1995 from KSU. In 1998, he obtained a master’s degree in bioengineering at the University of Surrey in the UK. He earned a Ph.D. in health information from the University of London in 2003. Albarrag began his career at KSU in 2004 as chief information officer. He served in that position until 2009. He also served as chairman of the medical informatics unit and director of e-learning and knowledge management from March 2007 to September 2012. As a professor, he teaches medical informatics, health education, and public health informatics, etc. Albarrag also served as dean of the Health Sciences College at Saudi Electronic University between 2012 and 2013, before being promoted as vice-rector of quality planning and development. He is also a member of the biomedical engineering scientific committee at the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties. Discussing ongoing research to fight coronavirus, Albarrag told Al-Ekhbariyah that through genetic sequencing, the rate of spread and transmission of the disease inside the Kingdom can be monitored, which can help reduce the infection rate.
