DUBAI — The United Arab Emirates reported 45 new cases of the novel coronavirus — the highest number in a single day — raising the total number of infections in the country to 198, state news agency WAM reported on Monday quoting an official in the Ministry of Health. Ministry of Health spokeswoman Dr. Farida Al-Hosani, who was talking to reporters as part of the regular press briefing on developments with regard to COVID-19 and precautionary measures being taken to prevent its spread, said that all 45 people are currently in stable conditions. One of the infected cases was outside the country and didn’t follow home quarantine, infecting 17 people of his relatives and colleagues through direct contact, she added. The new cases are of nationals from Ethiopia, Italy, Iraq, Kuwait, Peru, the Philippines, Lebanon, Somalia, Syria, Tunisia, and the United Kingdom, according to Al-Hosani. They also include two people from Canada, three from Bangladesh, four from each of Pakistan and the US, in addition to seven Emiratis and an equal number of Indians. Meanwhile, the ministry’s spokesperson also announced three more recoveries — two Nepalese and an Iranian national — bringing the total number of recovered cases to 41.
