UAE brings back 1,743 citizens from abroad amid coronavirus outbreak

ABU DHABI — The United Arab Emirates have successfully carried out 39 evacuation operations, bringing back 1,743 Emirati citizens from abroad after the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic across the world, the state news agency WAM reported citing a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. “So far 39 evacuation operations have been completed by air and by land, evacuating of a total of 1,743 people, and 25 evacuations are expected to be carried over the next few days, said Khaled Abdullah Humaid Belhoul, undersecretary at the MOFAIC. The evacuation move is line with the directives issued by the country’s top leadership as part of efforts to help Emirati citizens aboard following the suspension of all incoming and outgoing flights. “The MOFAIC and its missions have reached out to Emiratis to check on their conditions, and facilitate their return home from a number of countries,” Belhoul said.
