Kuwait reports 109 new coronavirus cases, taking total to 665

JEDDAH — Kuwait on Monday announced 109 new coronavirus cases over the past 24 hours, taking the total number of infections in the country to 665, the health ministry said in a statement carried by Kuwait News Agency. During a daily briefing on developments related to coronavirus in the country, the ministry’s official spokesperson said that out of the 109 new cases, eight were related to travel outside and the remaining 101 cases contracted the virus through contacts with already infected people. Out of the eight travel cases, five were Kuwaiti nationals who traveled to the United Kingdom, two Kuwaiti nationals who traveled to Spain, and one Kuwaiti national who had traveled to the United States, according to the spokesperson said. As regard locally transmitted infections, out of 101 cases, 79 are Indian residents, six Bangladeshis, six Egyptians, six Iranians, three Pakistanis and a Filipino, the spokesman said, adding that all of these persons had been in close contact with others whose contraction circumstances were being studied. The spokesman added that there are 20 patients at intensive care wards, including seven in critical condition, thus the whole number of active who continue to receive medical care at public hospitals stands at 561. He again called upon citizens and residents to comply with public health instructions during the crisis. Earlier on Monday, Minister of Health Dr. Basel Al-Sabah declared that four patients have recovered, taking the total number of recoveries to 103. On Saturday, Kuwait declared first coronavirus-related fatality; a 46-year-old Indian.
