Oman ruler issues five royal decrees related to UN treaties, diplomatic ties with India

DUBAI: The Ruler of Oman, Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al-Said on Tuesday issued five royal decrees confirming the Sultanate’s agreement, with some reservations, to multilateral UN treaties related to human, economic, social and cultural rights. One royal decree, No. 47/2020, ratified the agreement between Oman and India for a mutual waiving of visas for holders of diplomatic, special, service and official passports earlier signed on February 11th, 2018. Royal Decree No. 44/2020 endorsed the Sultanate’s agreement to the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance; Royal Decree No. 45/2020 approved the Sultanate’s accession to the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment; while Royal Decree No. 46/2020 confirmed Oman’s inclusion in the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights. Royal Decree No. 48/2020 meanwhile amended provisions of Royal Decree No. 29/2019 on the appointment of members of the Human Rights Commission, as well as appointed Khalid bin Ahmed bin Said Al-Saadi, as a member of the said commission.
