OIC body offers $200,000 prize to fight COVID-19

RABAT: The Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) has announced the requirements for nominations for the “ISESCO prize for fighting against coronavirus,” valued at $200,000, SPA reports. It has also identified the assessment stages and winning steps for the prize. ISESCO, which was founded by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) 40 years ago, said in a statement: “Starting April 15, the prize will be open to all researchers and research institutions that can discover a successful treatment or preventive vaccine against the virus.” “A nomination and arbitration committee will be established. It will be presided over by ISESCO’s director general, with the membership of two representatives of specialized international organizations and four scientists to be chosen from renowned international universities and research centers. The committee’s secretariat will be located at the organization’s headquarters in the Moroccan capital, Rabat,” it said. ISESCO has featured the requirements form and procedure for validating the patent of innovation on its website. It also offers participants the opportunity to consult specialized international health bodies. The award ceremony will be held later in the year with the participation of the nomination and arbitration committee’s members, partner organizations and a number of scientists and researchers.
