An Israeli drone targeted on Wednesday a car carrying members from Hezbollah in Syria near the Lebanese border, but caused no casualties. Speaking on condition of anonymity, a source close to Hezbollah told Asharq Al-Awsat that an Israeli drone initially fired near a car carrying Hezbollah members, who managed to run away before a second strike completely destroyed the vehicle. For its part, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that the Israeli drone targeted the car near the Jdeideh Yabous Syrian Crossing, which is facing the Lebanese Masnaa checkpoint in the Bekaa region. The official Syrian News Agency (SANA) reported that the car that was targeted carried civilians, without specifying the identity of the party that carried out the attack. In Lebanon, the National News Agency (NNA) confirmed that an Israeli reconnaissance plane fired a missile at a Cherokee vehicle, causing only material damage. While the Israeli military spokesman declined to confirm or deny the reports on the bombing, the military reporter for the Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper, Yossi Yehoshua, wrote in a tweet: “Carrying out an attack on a car on the Syrian-Lebanese border within a short time amid Corona restrictions is an unusual challenge.” The newspaper said that it did not know whether there was a connection between the bombing and another news discussed by the army command, which reported that at 23:20 pm on Tuesday, Israeli radars spotted an Iranian military plane flying over the airspace of Iraq, returning to Tehran. Based on its altitude, the plane was likely returning from Damascus, according to the news. Hezbollah has been fighting openly in Syria since 2013 in support of pro-government forces, and has participated in several major battles that have contributed to strengthening the regime.
