Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has ordered the continuation of efforts to return Egyptian stranded abroad due to the coronavirus outbreak. His order was made Saturday during a meeting with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, Immigration Minister Nabila Makram, Antiquities Minister Khaled al-Anani and Civil Aviation Minister Mohammad Manar Enabah. According to the Egyptian presidency, Sisi discussed with the ministers the situation and the total number of Egyptian nationals stuck abroad. Presidential spokesman Bassam Rady said Sisi was briefed on the government’s efforts to repatriate them in coordination with the authorities of corresponding countries. The repatriation would be based on special rules and timetables that will be announced by Egyptian embassies abroad, Rady revealed. Sisi also reviewed the “precautionary and preventive measures currently applied on citizens returning to Egypt to ensure they are not infected with the COVID-19.” These include conducting a rapid tests for coronavirus, as well as transferring them directly to quarantine facilities. In other news, Sisi congratulated Coptic Orthodox Pope Tawadros II on the occasion of Easter. He praised the “honest and kind sentiments between Egyptian Muslims and Christians.” Pope Tawadros II held on Sunday Easter services in an empty monastery in the desert amid coronavirus restrictions which kept the faithful from gathering at churches and monasteries across the country. The services were held at the Monastery of Saint Pishoy, in a desert valley west of Cairo known as Wadi Natrun. Egypt has reported 3,032 virus cases, including 224 deaths.
