RIYADH: The British nationals staying in Saudi Arabia who urgently need to get to the UK have another opportunity to return home. The British ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Neil Crompton, tweeted an update regarding flights to the UK for British nationals and residents. “There will be a further opportunity for British nationals and residents based in Riyadh and the Eastern Province to purchase tickets for a flight from Riyadh to London Heathrow on Friday, April 24,” he said. “We are also arranging transport for British nationals and residents to get from Dammam to Riyadh for this flight,” he wrote. “We have now emailed those British nationals in Riyadh and the Eastern Province who have already registered with us. If you are a British national or resident, have not yet registered, and urgently need to return the UK, please send your phone number, location, Visa type and any other relevant details to [email protected] as soon as possible.” Priority will be given to Britons visiting Saudi Arabia on short-stay visas, those most at risk from the effects of coronavirus; priority cases (such as NHS workers); and those based far away from airports who might struggle to catch future flights. “We believe that most of those Britons who urgently need to return to the UK have now done so. Many of those who have registered with us have asked about possible future flights. We are working hard to ensure that there will be more opportunities to purchase tickets for flights in the coming months. We do not plan to arrange any flights next week. We urge British nationals and residents who need to return to consider purchasing ticket for this flight,” he said. Crompton said: “Please note that because there are commercial options for flights to the UK, we will not be arranging government charter flights. Flights will only go to London Heathrow: there are no plans to arrange flights to regional airports.” Those need consular assistance can call on +966 11 4819100. The UK mission made the same arrangements for British nationals and residents in Jeddah and western provinces for a flight from Jeddah to London Heathrow yesterday, April 22.
