RIYADH — Saudi Arabia won membership of two key United Nations bodies in elections that were held remotely at the UN headquarters on Tuesday. With the backing of UN members, Kingdom has become a member of the United Nations Commission on Science and Technology for Development (CSTD) for the 2021-2024 period as well as of United Nations Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPC) for the year 2021-2023. Both CSTD and CCPC are subsidiary bodies of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations. Saudi Arabia’s victory in the elections reflects its high status as well as the international confidence it enjoys as a result of its successes at the global level in various fields. It is also an acknowledgment of Kingdom’s steady march toward achieving its Vision 2030 under the visionary leadership of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman and Muhammad Bin Salman, deputy premier and minister of defense. Expressing his happiness over the development, Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations Ambassador Abdullah Bin Yahya Al-Muallami note that the great efforts undertaken by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in various fields have won it a distinguished position at the international level, helping it forge fruitful partnership with the United Nations and all its bodies. — SPA
