DUBAI: Lebanon’s Prime Minister Hassan Diab has called on ministers to draw a quick plan to control price increases, state news agency NNA reported. Diab was surprised by the high prices of Lebanese products and vegetables and said they have become “unreasonable.” “We are confronted with a wave of high prices, and we cannot stay idle as if we were not concerned. It is totally unacceptable for us not to act quickly, because things will further get out of control,” the PM added during the Council of Ministers meeting. Living standards and increasing prices were at the center of the meeting at the Grand Serail, as a wave of “the revolution of the hungry people” protests flooded the country despite coronavirus regulations. The Council of Ministers decided on 17 actions to be taken in order to control price hikes, including the involvement of Internal Security Forces and municipality workers as price inspectors. Meanwhile, economy minister Raoul Nehme said they will set a maximum profit margin for basic commodities and adjust margins.
