RIYADH — Klakh, one of the most gifted Saudi artists, had a dream of decorating a street in one of the major Saudi cities with his unique graffiti and wall paintings but was never an opportunity to demonstrate his extraordinary talent in such a way. However, his village, which is also known as Klakh, located 50 km southeast of Taif, helped him realize his dream by allocating 300 meters along the sidewalls of the main road at its entrance for showcasing a number of his creative works. The young genius is also allowed to draw on the walls of the abandoned houses in the village. The most prominent figure among those who motivated and encouraged him to go ahead with the superb artistic works is none other than Minister of Culture Prince Badr Bin Abdullah Bin Farhan. Extremely impressed by his creative works in some of the unique paintings, the minister commented on his Twitter account: “Creative Kalakh. We all support you, and the colleagues in the Ministry of Culture will communicate with you.” These words were the first to come in support of the talented young man from an eminent Saudi personality that catapulted him to fame. It, however, also reflected the true aspect of openness and the support for talented persons as one of the goals of the Kingdom’s ambitious Vision 2030. In tweets, Kalakh says that he has an ambition to be among the ten best painters around the world, as he wants to represent his country at international forums showcasing his talent and bringing laurels to the country. The videos compiled by the creative Saudi painter recently show several impressive paintings, of which a major chunk goes to illustrate female faces. In one of his latest tweets, Kalakh commented about one of his drawings of a girl pouring water on her face, saying that this is one of the works that he is proud of, revealing that his most difficult task was when he focused a lot on the drawing in order to highlight the difficult features of her demeanor. “For me, it took around 45 minutes, while most of my works usually take not more than 30 minutes.” As for his graffiti on the walls of the abandoned houses, he said: “I want to breathe life into it by turning the rooms into artistic paintings with each one of them telling a story, which the owner wishes to tell.” The latest drawings of Kalakh reflect the apparent change in his talent graph. His drawings about women brought him much popularity than his graffiti works in abandoned homes and garbage boxes. He used art as a medium to deliver some powerful messages and posted many artworks in social media. There are many people who are coming out in support of his creativity while there are some others who oppose him, saying that the illustration of women is a deviation from the conservative approach prevailing in the Kingdom.
