JEDDAH — Rehab Khaled Zakari, a Saudi female plastic artist, is making incredible creative wonders, not on the canvas but on tiles and marble. She has been instrumental in converting pieces of tiles and marble into amazing works of art which are complex in nature and profound in impact. Speaking to Al-Arabiya.net, Rehab described her adept style of transforming hard material into beautiful images of art. “I deal with the weight of heavy tiles, and I randomly break it to get small and different pieces that enable me to draw on these pieces, which have turned into innovative works of art. I also draw my ideas from nature and environment around me, and also employ my personal experiences. She focused on drawing with using oil colors in the beginning before switching over to using different types of tiles and other hard materials. “I achieved a clear distinction by using natural materials and their various details, until I joined the Faculty of Design and Architecture. Many ideas that turned into an artistic feeling until I come out with a painting with a style having monumental impact,” she said. Rehab recalled that she identified her talent in drawing since her childhood during which she started drawing cartoon characters. Then she entered the real world of portraiture to develop her talent through continuous practice and started sharing her drawings in social media. Rehab participated in many drawing and painting competitions during 2015 and 2016. She has won the first position in Jazan, and fourth position Kingdomwide and also participated in the Misk Arts Competition last year.
