The Saudi Health Ministry announced Thursday that 2,039 more people tested positive for the coronavirus, 59 percent of them foreigners, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 46,869. Ministry spokesman Dr. Mohammed Abdelali told a daily press briefing on the pandemic that ten people died, raising the death toll from the coronavirus to 283. Abdelali said the lack of commitment to social distancing rules had caused a spike in cases among women and children. The rate of increase in cases among children stood at 125 percent, and that of women at 100 percent. Abdelali reiterated his call for the respect of the coronavirus measures, including avoiding gatherings, keeping a safe distance from others, wearing masks when going out, and washing hands continuously. He mainly stressed the need to stay home. “It is our duty to be more cautious so that we and our loved ones stay safe,” said the spokesman.
