RIYADH — Saudi Arabia has jumped to 10th position globally in internet speed, according to a report published by the international website Speed Test specialized in measuring mobile internet speeds. In April, the Kingdom managed to increase the average mobile Internet speed to 55.71 MB per second. Internet services in the Kingdom witnessed a growing demand from users recently after applying many precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19, as the Saudi Communications Commission revealed earlier that the rate of data consumption per person in the Kingdom before COVID-19 amounted to 600 MB of data per day which is twice the global average. However, the rate has grown to 920 megabytes per day after starting precautionary measures, which is more than three times the global average. The Kingdom had ranked 105 in 2017 before achieving this qualitative leap that exceeds 500% in improving the speed of access to the internet through mobile networks in line with the plans for digital transformation in the Kingdom.
