RIYADH: Regional subscription video-on-demand service, StarzPlay, has revealed the most popular DC Universe show among its sci-fi fans. A survey conducted by the service showed that 42 percent of its viewers were binging on DC shows with “The Flash” topping the chart at 62 percent of users watching and completing the full boxsets. The show, featuring DC’s fastest man alive, was one of the most-watched series in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region with 26.7 percent of StarzPlay’s monthly active users (MAUs) addicted to the action-packed superhero series. DC fans in Kuwait were the biggest watchers of the crime-scene investigator at 38.1 percent of MAUs, followed by the UAE (31.4 percent), and Saudi Arabia (27.2 percent). Another popular DC character “Batwoman” attracted the highest number of unique users, with 41 percent of DC fans consuming new episodes every week. Khaled Benchouche, SVP programming and acquisitions at StarzPlay, said: “As a customer-focused brand, we constantly analyze our in-house data to provide content that is most sought-after and relevant for our subscribers. Our recent study shows the growing appetite for DC content in the region, especially boxsets. “The latest additions to our DC portfolio have done exceptionally well. We have seen a tremendous increase in viewing during the stay-at-home period, which provided us with more insights into the type of content our customers prefer. “We will continue to follow our data-led strategy to meet and exceed consumer expectations,” he added. StarzPlay subscribers can also watch the entire second season of “Doom Patrol,” set to premiere on the platform this month. Following the story of DC’s beloved group of superheroes who are brought together by modern-day scientist Dr. Niles, viewers can watch how the super-powered outcasts together fight for a world that wants nothing to do with them. The service is available in 20 countries across the MENA region, including Pakistan.
