Bayern Munich have agreed to buy the Manchester City winger Leroy Sané for about €45m (£40.9m) plus add-ons. The 24-year-old Germany international will sign a five-year deal with the Bundesliga champions. The first add-ons are easily achievable and should see the fee rise quickly to €49m. There are then further achievement-based clauses, with City to receive potentially €60m in total. Sané has wanted to return to Germany for some time and is due to travel to Munich for a medical. Assuming all goes well he will not return to City even though he cannot play for Bayern until next season. City, who are understood to have a 10% sell-on clause, will consider this a good piece of business given Sané had a year left on his contract, recently refused to sign a new deal and Bayern had hoped to pay closer to £30m. With Phil Foden, Riyad Mahrez and Bernardo Silva at the club, there is no apparent need to sign a replacement, but Pep Guardiola emphasised recently he had wanted Sané to agree an extension. “I’m so disappointed,” the manager said. “When we make an offer it’s because we want him; he’s got a special quality that is difficult to find.” The transfer could be one of the most expensive of the summer because of the impact of coronavirus on the market. Sané joined City from Schalke in 2016 and has won two Premier League titles, one FA Cup and two League Cups. He has made 135 appearances for the club, scoring 39 goals, but has missed almost all of this season because of injury. He suffered a torn ACL in the Community Shield against Liverpool in August of last year and did not play again until the 5-0 win against Burnley on 22 June.
