Saudi Arabia calls for firm stance against Iran’s aggression and terror

RIYADH — Saudi Arabia on Tuesday called on the international community to take a firm stance against the Iranian regime’s aggression and terror as it welcomed a UN report confirming Iranian involvement in attacks on its oil facilities and an airport in September 2019. In a statement, Saudi Arabia foreign ministry said the findings in the report presented by the United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres “leaves no doubt for the international community about Iran"s hostile intentions toward the Kingdom in particular, the Arab region and the world in general.” The ministry also said that the UN report lays bare Iran’s continued aggression and sabotage with an aim to destabilize the region"s security and its logistical, military and financial support to armed terrorist militias In Yemen, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon and other places. Earlier on Tuesday, the UN chief presented the report during a virtual Security Council meeting, implicating the Iranian regime in attacks last year on Saudi Aramco’s installations last year. In his reaction to the presentation of the UN report in the Security Council, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal Bin Farhan said: “The UNSC’s discussion of the UN report that confirmed Iran’s involvement in the attack on the Kingdom’s oil facilities is a reminder for the international community to take a firm stance against the Iranian regime’s aggression and terror.” “The details and facts laid out in the UN report reinforce our support for a continued ban on arming the Iranian regime, and confronting its developing nuclear and ballistic programs.” Lauding the move, the foreign ministry said in the statement that it reinforced Saudi Arabia’s confidence in the United Nations and its main organs, including the Security Council. The ministry also called on the international community and the Security Council to take appropriate measures to extend the arms embargo on Iran.
