DUBAI: Supermodels from around the world have joined forces to star in Lebanese designer Eli Mizrahi’s latest campaign, shot in Saudi Arabia’s AlUla, Vogue Arabia revealed on Monday. The fall 2020 campaign – for the designer’s New York-based label Mônot – features catwalk stars like the British Kate Moss, Italian Mariacarla Boscono, South African Candice Swanepoel, British Jourdan Dunn, American Amber Valletta, Chinese Xiao Wen and British-Sudanese Alek Wek. The models wore black and white thigh-slit flowy dresses as they walked and danced against the Kingdom’s cultural and heritage site. “Looking at the landscape, it is a self-reflection symbolizing what you can do. How do you view yourself? What does white represent? What does black represent?” Mizrahi told the magazine. The designer, who grew up in Monaco, was first invited to Saudi Arabia for the MDL Beast festival in December. He instantly knew that Al Ula was where he wanted to shoot his next collection, he told the publication. “I didn’t have a million bucks for this campaign,” said Mizrahi, who lived in New York and Ibiza. “But you never know until you try. I had my little army of supporters; Carine Roitfeld was on board, and I convinced the talent that they would look back on this moment — 24 hours in AlUla — as something special. Kate Moss not only came, but she was the first one on set at 5 a.m. and the last to leave.” Mizrahi launched his brand in 2019. He debuted with a “collection zero” in September in Paris. In March, the entrepreneur-turned-designer presented his fall/winter 2020 pieces – from his first full collection for Mônot – at Paris Fashion Week. The designer’s timeless creations were inspired by artist Lucio Fontana and architect Eero Saarinen.
