Saudi Arabia sees steady rise in COVID-19 recoveries as new cases drop

RIYADH — Saudi Arabia on Thursday recorded 2,764 new coronavirus infections and 4,574 recoveries over the past 24 hours, according to a statement from the Kingdom’s health ministry. This brings the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Kingdom to 243,238 and recoveries to 187,622. The ministry also announced 45 more coronavirus-related deaths, taking the total number of fatalities to 2,370. Of the new cases, 260 were recorded in Jeddah, 213 in Al Hufof, 208 in Riyadh, 167 in Al Mobarraz, 159 in Dammam, and 137 in Makkah and 102 in Taif. Speaking during a press conference, the ministry spokesman Dr. Muhammad Al-Abdel Ali said that the recent figures suggest that there has been a noticeable spike in the number of recoveries. According to the spokesman, there are 53,246 active cases out of which 2,206 are critical. A total of 1,024,489 people have benefited from Tataman (fever) clinics and Taakkad (Make sure) centers in various regions of the Kingdom, Dr. Ali said. According to the health ministry, a total of 132 patients have benefited from treatment with plasma taken from people who have recovered from the virus.
