RIYADH — Dr. Majed Al-Dosaimani, spokesman of the Public Prosecution, affirmed that the Saudi society is extremely disciplined in terms of taking precautionary measures and following preventive protocols to stem the spread of coronavirus pandemic. In an interview with Okaz/Saudi Gazette, he cited the growing trend for downloading mobile applications titled Tabaud (social distancing) and Tawakkalna (our trust) as the best evidence for the depth of awareness related to health regulations among members of the society. Al-Dosaimani said that the Public Prosecution, in its capacity as a statutory competent authority, has initiated legal measures in a number of cases that involve cybercrimes, such as circulation of rumors and spreading of panic. “The Public Prosecution would continue to deal with such rumors decisively, in accordance with the legal terms of reference entrusted to it,” he said. Al-Dosaimani called on the public to refrain from violating regulations and instructions related to combating the pandemic, especially spreading rumors and panic. He asked them not to be drawn into smear campaigns designed to undermine public confidence in the efforts being made by the government agencies to combat the pandemic. He said the Public Prosecution is investigating such violations and crimes, including reports about some deliberate attempts to transmit the infection.
