Saudi corona cases down, recoveries up

RIYADH — A total of 3,139 people have recovered from the coronavirus in the last 24 hours in Saudi Arabia, health authorities said. The Kingdom also recorded 2,331 new infections. The total number of confirmed cases in the Kingdom now stand at 258,156. Forty-four people died due to complications caused by COVID-19, bringing the total number of virus-related deaths to 2,601, health ministry spokesman Dr. Muhammad Al-Abdel Ali was quoted by Saudi Press Agency (SPA) as saying. With the recovery of 3,139 patients announced on Wednesday, the number of recoveries rose to 210,398. Hufof topped the list of new infections on Wednesday with 159 cases. It was followed by 145 cases in Taif, 136 in Riyadh, 121 in Mobarraz, 115 in Dammam, 105 in Khamis Mushayt, 97 in Makkah, 96 in Jeddah, 79 in Jazan, 71 in Hail, 70 in Najran, 63 in Buraidah, 56 in Madinah, 55 in Hafr Al-Batin and 53 in Abha. The other cases were reported in cities and provinces across the Kingdom, the spokesman said. Meanwhile, an official has said that the Grand Mosque in Makkah will be closed to worshipers on the upcoming Arafat Day and Eid Al-Adha as part of preventative measures to combat the novel coronavirus. “The suspension of prayers in the Grand Mosque and its outer premises will continue. We urge the people of Makkah to break their fast on the Day of Arafat in their homes,” Maj. Gen. Mohammed Bin Wasl Al-Ahmadi, assistant commander of the Hajj security forces for the Grand Mosque and its premises, said on Tuesday.
