MAKKAH — Abdullah Al-Kathiri has a remarkable story to tell during this year’s Hajj. The Emirati pilgrim was chosen among the limited number of pilgrims participating in this year’s exceptional Hajj after losing hope for any Hajj plans this year. “Last year, I planned my wedding around the time of Hajj, so I postponed my plans to attend Hajj until this year,” said Al-Kathiri. However, his plans were put in serious doubt with the outbreak of a global pandemic that hindered the plans of millions of people worldwide. Yet, Al-Kathiri found that against all odds, he was blessed to be among the limited number of pilgrims, after following simple procedures and criteria set by Ministry of Hajj and Umrah. Al-Kathiri, a COVID-19 survivor himself, talked about his experience during the submission process saying: “I was waiting for the release of the [application] process. It was very clear and easy, I even found it extraordinarily easy.” “You just apply, add your ID number, disclose your health condition, and pledge that this is the first time you are performing Hajj since the capacity is limited. The results were released, and thank God, I was surprised to be included in the list of those allowed to perform Hajj,” Al-Kathiri said. The Emirati national described his feelings while on his way to perform his first Hajj during such an exceptional season, saying: “I think no one expected, among millions of Muslims, to be blessed with approval. It is an indescribable feeling, of course, especially since it is my first pilgrimage.” Al-Kathiri expressed his gratitude to the Kingdom and its leadership for exerting all efforts possible to provide pilgrims with such an unforgettable experience. He added: “Particularly in the last few years, every pilgrim has been praising how smooth everything was despite the huge numbers. Imagine how it will be now, when the attendance is limited. It will be impeccable to the greatest extent.” — SG
