RIYADH — Dr. Awwad Al-Awwad, president of the Human Rights Commission (HRC), launched on Monday a campaign titled “Together to combat trafficking in persons in the Kingdom" ahead of the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, which is marked on July 30 every year. “Trafficking in persons is one of the major criminal acts in the world today, and we need cooperation to eliminate it as a crime that constitutes a violation of human rights,” he said in a statement. l-Awwad stressed that the campaign comes at a time when the Kingdom, under the leadership of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman and Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman, witnessed continuous developments in the field of combating crimes of trafficking in persons. “The Kingdom has taken advanced steps in this field with the introduction of qualitative changes and reforms. All these have contributed to the progress in the Kingdom’s file of trafficking in persons, and improved its ranking in a number of relevant global indexes.” Al-Awwad highlighted the great transformations achieved by the Kingdom in the human rights file. “HRC is keen on working to achieve the aspirations of the King and the Crown Prince with regard to the protection and promotion of human rights and spread awareness about it. The commission would also contribute to ensuring that this is implemented in light of Islamic Shariah rules and their applications so as to attain the best levels in this regard,” he added.
