DUBAI: Egyptian YouTuber Mustafa Hfnawy died on Monday at the age of 25, days after being diagnosed with a brain stroke. When Hfnawy was first admitted to the hospital last week, doctors falsely diagnosed him with colitis – a chronic digestive disease characterized by inflammation of the inner lining of the colon – which caused his health condition to deteriorate and led the influencer into a coma. The medical team later diagnosed Hfnawy with a brain stroke that resulted in a partial-body paralysis. Hfnawy’s close friend shared a video on Instagram explaining what had happened with the influencer a few days before he passed away. “He felt pain in the side of his stomach. He drove his car at 1 p.m. and went to the emergency room in Air Force Hospital (in Cairo),” the friend said. “They thought he had something in his colon. The doctors there told him to drink bleach until he does the CT scan in four hours.” His friend said that when Hfnawy went in for the CT scan, he threw up and started getting the symptoms of strokes. “If he was saved the first four hours, he wouldn’t have been partially paralyzed,” added his friend. When the rest of Hfnawy’s friends arrived at the hospital they noticed his case was deteriorating. They asked the doctors to do further tests, which later proved that the left side of the influencer’s brain was completely damaged. “One of the doctors told us ‘if you got him earlier, we would have saved him.’ The doctor didn’t know that he had been here since 1 p.m. and that he got the stroke when in the hospital,” Hfnawy’s friend explained in the video. Besides influencers who were friends with the YouTuber, a number of celebrities on social media, including Egyptian actors Amr Youssef, Hannah El-Zahed, Eman El-Assi, singer Ahmed Kamel, Moroccan fashion designer Bassma Boussel and more, used their platform to ask their large number of followers to keep Hfnawy in their prayers after his case went viral. Egyptian singer and actor Tamer Hosny, who Hfnawy was a fan of, visited the blogger in the hospital during the weekend. After his visit, Hosny wrote to his 17.5 million followers: “After I saw him today, he deserves your prayers. His condition is way more critical that you can imagine… and the doctors say he needs a miracle to survive. Your prayers are his only hope.” Hfnawy has over 1.5 million followers on Instagram and 168,000 subscribers on YouTube.
