WASHINGTON — US President Donald Trump has accused the Democratic Party of unleashing “violent anarchists upon US cities during his speech on the final night of the Republican convention. He dubbed his Democratic rival Joe Biden as "the destroyer of American greatness," warning voters that his opponent will “demolish" the American dream if he wins the White House in November. He claimed that Democrats view the US as a "depraved" and "wicked" country that must be punished for its "sins." "Your vote will decide whether we protect law-abiding Americans, or whether we give free rein to violent anarchists, agitators, and criminals who threaten our citizens," Trump warned. "And this election will decide whether we will defend the American way of life, or whether we allow a radical movement to completely dismantle and destroy it." Asking voters for another four years in office, the US president said: "From the moment I left my former life behind, and a good life it was, I have done nothing but fight for you." "I did what our political establishment never expected and could never forgive, breaking the cardinal rule of Washington politics. I kept my promises. "Together, we have ended the rule of the failed political class — and they are desperate to get their power back by any means necessary. They are angry at me because instead of putting them first, I put America first." In a blistering attack on his opponent"s decades-long political life, he continued: "Joe Biden spent his entire career outsourcing the dreams of American workers, offshoring their jobs, opening their borders and sending their sons and daughters to fight in endless foreign wars." The end of the Republican convention heralds a 10-week sprint to election day, and the coming campaign is widely expected to be one of the ugliest in living memory. Trump accepted his party"s renomination from the South Lawn of the White House. Trump"s reference to the sometimes violent racial justice protests that have swept the nation in recent months came as hundreds of Black Lives Matter demonstrators gathered outside the White House gates. Some of their shouts and car horns could be heard on the South Lawn despite new fencing being erected this week along the White House perimeter to keep protesters at a distance. — Agencies
