During the tour, the officials were briefed on the mosque’s message that calls for coexistence DUBAI: Senior advisor to the US president Jared Kushner and Meir Ben-Shabbat, Israel’s national security advisor, visited the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday, as part their official trip to the UAE. They were accompanied during the visit by Yousif Al-Obaidli, Director-General of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre. During the tour, the officials were briefed on the mosque’s message that calls for coexistence, tolerance, and openness to other cultures. They also learned about the history and Islamic art incorporated into the mosque’s architecture. A US-Israeli delegation led by Kushner landed in Abu Dhabi on Monday, traveling aboard the first commercial flight between Israel and the UAE. The visit follows the announcement of the Abraham Accord on Aug. 13 to normalize relations between the UAE and Israel. Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, one of the world’s largest, opened in 2007. The building, which dominates Abu Dhabi’s skyline, draws on architectural styles from different Muslim civilizations.
