RIYADH — Saudi Arabia, represented by the Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC), won an award and seven certificates of excellence during the ninth contest of the World Summit on the Information Society 2020, which is organized by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) in Geneva, Switzerland. This forum is the largest global annual ICT event for development and promotes digital transformation and global partnerships to achieve sustainable development goals. It also seeks to bridge the global digital divide separating rich countries from poor countries by spreading access to the Internet in the developing world. Addressing the virtual opening ceremony of the summit, Dr. Mohammed bin Saeed Al-Tamimi, the CITC governor, affirmed the Kingdom’s resolve to make the most of the technology for people’s welfare. The governor reasserted the significance of the digital shift as it is the new lifeline and the tool to realize growth as well as welfare, especially as all vital sectors such as health, education, and commerce are depending on it as a base and facilitator for the continuance of works and businesses that would mitigate the impact of coronavirus pandemic.
