WASHINGTON — US President Donald Trump is scheduled to hold a signing ceremony on Sept. 15 for a groundbreaking Middle East agreement normalizing relations between the United Arab Emirates and Israel, Reuters reported on Tuesday, citing a senior White House official. According to the state news agency of the United Arab Emirates, Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan will lead a UAE high-ranking delegation to Washington at the invitation of the US president to participate in the signing ceremony of the historic UAE-Israeli peace accord in the presence of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Confirming his presence at the event, the Israeli premier tweeted: “I am proud to embark next week to Washington, at the invitation of President Trump, to take part in this historic ceremony at the White House for the foundation of the peace treaty between Israel and the United (Arab) Emirates.” The United Arab Emirates and Israel announced on Aug. 13 that they have agreed to normalize relations. In a joint statement, United States President Donald Trump, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan announced that a “historic breakthrough” had been reached aimed at “advancing peace in the Middle East”. — Agencies
