OIC, IMSIU sign accord to combat Islamophobia, extremism

JEDDAH — The secretary general of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Dr. Yousef Al-Othaimeen, and President of Imam Muhammad Bin Saud Islamic University (IMSIU), Dr. Ahmed Bin Salem Al-Amri, at the weekend signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to promote cooperation and share experiences in areas of common interest, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) said. The MoU provides for coordination on scholarships offered by the university to students from OIC member states to build their and disseminate the true and moderate message of Islam built on solidarity, tolerance and openness, shunning extremism, radicalism, violence and terrorism. Pursuant to the MoU, the university will cooperate with the Sawt Al-Hikma (Voice of Wisdom) Center at the OIC, to combat deviant thought, extremism and Islamophobia, with a view to rejecting terrorism effectively with facts and figures. The two organizations also aim to implement joint projects in the field of Islamic and economic studies and research.
