Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi met UN special envoy to Yemen, Martin Griffiths, in the Saudi capital Riyadh on Monday, The Yemeni leader highlighted the concessions made by his government, which he said had been “met only with arrogance and intransigence” by the Houthi militia. Hadi said he supported the work of Griffiths in implementing the three main components of the a deal agreed last year. The Stockholm Agreement signed in December was endorsed by the UN Security Council, and signed by Hadi’s government and the Iran-backed Houthis. However, Hadi said ever since the deal was signed, the Houthi militia have demonstrated an “indifference or eagerness to implement its provision” and that it has exceeded its timeframe. Hadi also said his government is “looking forward to concrete work on the ground.” “Our Yemeni people aspire to achieve the just peace that the Yemeni people deserve, and the regional and international references have confirmed it,” Hadi said. He added that the Houthis “clearly work to transfer the Iranian experience to Yemen, which our Yemeni people will not accept or tolerate at all no matter the cost of sacrifices.” Griffiths said he appreciated all the efforts and consultations aimed at achieving peace, including for the release and exchange of prisoners, which was held in coordination with the Red Cross. He also said the international community is closely monitoring the situation in Yemen in general, and appreciates the president’s efforts in supporting peace, affirming that he will exert his own efforts in order to achieve the peace that the Yemeni people deserve.
