RIYADH — Football fans throughout Saudi Arabia have been promised that they can play a massive part in their team’s fortunes ahead of the 2020-21 Saudi Pro League campaign, despite not being able to attend games. Supporters have only had to wait a month for the return of the region’s biggest and most popular league which gets under way this weekend. As the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic continues, all safety measures have been put in place for a return of the SPL, with the return of popular fans’ online campaign #OurLeague. Last month Al Hilal were crowned league champions following the resumption of the 2019-20 campaign, in what was one of the most talked about season in SPL history, thanks to the league’s online supporters’ campaign, #OurLeague. Last season the SPL celebrated its most talked about campaign in its history with the excitement continuing after the 90 minutes, as media and supporters took to social media to share all things SPL, in a record-breaking campaign. In a season, which witnessed unlimited drama until the final whistle, fans witnessed 690 goals over the course of the season, whilst off the pitch social channels grew by an average of 34%. The #OurLeague campaigns included over 8 million impressions generated by club and media collaboration and over 185 published posts across Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and YouTube. Last season the #OurLeague campaign was showcased throughout stadiums as fans shared their support online and took part in a number of polls and quizzes whilst being able to engage with more videos and digital downloads. Football fans are still unable to attend live matches in light of the COVID-19 pandemic and the recovery from the virus, with supporters encouraged to stay safe and show their support online by following social media accounts on Twitter (@SPL), Instagram (SaudiProLeague), Facebook (@SaudiProLeague.SPL) and by using the hashtag #OurLeague. — SG
